The Department of Zoology of KSMDB College, Sasthamcotta, is one of the pioneering science departments of the institution, with a rich legacy of academic excellence, student development, and environmental stewardship. The department began its journey in 1964 under the leadership of Shri C. P. Ramachandran Pillai, the founding Head of the Department. With a vision to provide quality education in the life sciences, the department steadily grew and established itself as a centre for zoological studies in the region.

The B.Sc. Degree Programme in Zoology was introduced in 1967 under the guidance of Shri S. G. Pillai, marking a significant milestone in the academic history of the college. Since then, the department has played a vital role in nurturing generations of students, many of whom have excelled in higher education, research, teaching, healthcare, administration, and various professional fields.
